DR CP JOOSTE (B.Ch. D. Stellenbosch)

Dr Carel Jooste grew up in Namibia and graduated from Stellenbosch University in 1978. Since that year he has been practicing in Northcliff, seeing the transformation of the area and development of shopping complexes like Cresta. Over the years one has also seen the growth in the family of patients and it is not rare to have the grandchildren of patients first seen as young adults now attending the practice. The emphasis has thus always been to render a broad range of services to assist the whole family, youngest to geriatrics. Treatment options have developed greatly over the years and it is with much delight that one can nowadays offer solutions which were unheard of previously. We have also taken advantage of the availability of specialist dental practitioners in our city and have built up an excellent network of care which can provide a full range of oral treatments, taking care of all requirements of every patient. Parallel to this Carel also had another part-time career as lecturer in Physiology in the Faculty of Health Science at Wits University, teaching body function to medical, dental and other health care students. This led to interesting research on humans and animals and included a post-graduate thesis written on lion blood. The teaching aspect of academia has always been a keen interest and he is active in international associations dealing with medical education. Locally he has initiated numerous new teaching innovations which were recognized by him twice receiving the award as the best lecturer. After work he is an enthusiastic but slow swimmer and sometimes takes to the streets to run in our leafy suburbs. Music is an ongoing passion which includes playing the piano, attending local concerts or streaming international performers. Antiques and collectibles have made an interesting hobby and auctions and fairs are attended whenever possible. Travel remains a dream and would satisfy a love of history, architecture and food. To that end there is a desperate ongoing effort to remain fluent in German, the language of youth.
